Burna Boy, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu was born on July 2, 1991, is the son of Mr. Samuel Ogulu (manager of a welding firm in Port Harcourt) and Mrs. Bose Ogulu (a translator). He is the family’s first son. Interestingly, his grandpa, Benson Idonije, was formerly the manager of Fela Kuti, Burna Boy’s role model and inspiration to pursue a career in music. Bose Ogulu, his mother, was also a dancer for Fela Kuti and later became his manager. Ogulu was grown in Port Harcourt, Rivers, Nigeria’s southern part state, yet he is actually from Mbiama, Ahoada West LGA in Rivers.
His educational history includes Corona Secondary School in Agbara, where he completed his secondary school. As a young boy in the midst of school, he developed an interest in music, gaining inspiration from Fela Kuti, a legendary Nigerian artist, and began composing beats using FruityLoops. He immediately traveled to London to complete his college study. Damini studied Media Technology at the University of Sussex before moving on to Oxford Brookes University to study Media Communications and Culture.
He did not complete his degree at Oxford Brookes University, however; he dropped out in his second year to focus solely on his music career, which has paid off in the long term.
