ASUU has always been very concerned about the government’s indifference toward funding the university which as a measure of confused policies continues to established new ones without any pragmatic action plans to sustain those new ones.
Political populism that forms the basis of establishing these new ones without adequate resources to sustain them mostly withers away in the face of the profligacy that defines the economic realities of Nigeria today. The government sing song has been that ASUU should seek alternative funding a veiled attempt at commercialisation of tertiary education in Nigeria.
ASUU has consistently rebuffed government on this arguing that that will make University education beyond the reach of the masses and this will translate in alienating them from participating in the political and economic activities of their country.
With this pro people stance, how can any body accuse ASUU of promoting its self interests, even though that self interests itself is even a legitimate demand when viewed within the background that the indolent political class draws unmerited but fabulous emoluments.
