KATSINA- In preparation for the re-opening of tertiary institutions, the management of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University has commenced a three-day fumigation exercise to ward off reptiles and other harmful insects in the campus.
Malam Abdulhamid Danjuma, the Head of information and Protocol of the university made this assertion in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Katsina at the weekend.
Danjuma said the exercise was aimed at killing viruses and bacteria to save the lives of students and staff upon their resumption for the continuation of academic activities.
“The three-day fumigation exercise would cover the male and female students hostel and it’s surrounding, classes, lecture theatres, the main Library, students rest areas, culverts, sabbatical quarters and play ground”.
Other areas, he added include the convocation arena, bush paths, students centre, car parks, the Senate building as well as other areas within the university campus.
The exercise which went on successfully was coordinated by the office of the Dean of Student Affairs led by Dr Ahmad Jibrin.
Malam Qasimu, the head of the team that supervised the exercise, said it’s importance cannot be emphasized considering the long period in which the students and staff have not utilized most of the fumigated areas.
He expressed the hope that, the chemicals used would have a long impact in scaring away all harmful insects as well as decimating viruses and bacteria.
