The Issue between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is gradually yielding good fruit.

Recall that the University lecturers at sometimes in March 2020 embarked on a strike to press in their demands with the FG.

The strike which has been going on for close to 8months now has seen all Federal and State Universities shut down while students have been sent home and left to wander on the street without doing anything reasonable.

Over the last few weeks, the ASUU delegation has held several talks with the FG among which are the exclusion from IPPIS and approval of the use of payment platform UTAS, Payment of earned academics allowance of the lecturers, the release of fund for the revitalization of Universities as agreed and the payment of 7 months salaries being owned by the FG.

Two days ago, ASUU announced through it’s twitter account that the FG had agreed to pay ASUU a sum of 30bn as Earned academic allowance and 20bn as revitalization funds for Universities and this was seen as a welcome development but ASUU insist that the demands are yet to be met.

As the meeting commenced by 11am yesterday, reports from THE NATIONS Indicates that the FG has agreed to add an additional sum of 15 billion to make the funds on ground 65 billion naira.

The government on their own part also agreed to pay the striking lecturers through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System) until ASUU’s University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) was ready for usage.

However, after the news filtered into the social media world, students and parents have been reacting to the news as regards the outcome of the meeting between the ASUU and FG negotiating team seeing it as a good news and a bold step at bringing an end to the 8months strike.

Meanwhile, a Northern senator has taken to his twitter account to react to the news.

Shehu Sanni, a Senator that represented Kaduna in the 8th assembly has voice out and has applaud the FG and the ASUU team on the compromise reached so far.

“The reported exclusion of ASUU from IPPIS and the provision of N65 Billion,if true is commendable.Its the triumph of resilience and Dialogue. As an uncompromising supporter of ASUU, I call on the academics to consider this & restore their services. And no breach Pls”, he tweeted.

Sanni commend the action of the FG to exclude ASUU from the IPPIS payment platform for now and in turn gave a word of advise to ASUU. He used the medium to talk about resumption by asking the ASUU to consider the offer from the Federal Government and resume educational activities so that students can go back to their classrooms.

Furthermore, he chipped it in that ASUU should restore their service and ensure that there is no breach to smooth running of academic activities in all schools across Nigeria.

ASUU had promised to consult with the academic community council and get a reply back to the FG to know if they will continue the strike or suspend it and accept the offer.
