At the end of University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) ASUU congress meeting today, They resolved at accepting FG’s offer but wants all payments of outstanding salaries to be paid at the said date in December before calling off strike.
It could be recalled that ASUU has finalized conditions to call off its eight-month long strike: The Academic Staff Union Of Universities ASUU, has accepted a newly pledged amount N70 billion to be released by the FG. The union, however, insisted that the funding should be implemented before the strike would be suspended.
The FG further agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31. ASUU is expected to report the agreement to its organs and then communicate their decision to the government after which a date for the calling off of the strike would be announced.
The major take in this episode between ASUU and FG is that common ground has been reached, and both parties have agreed on the settlement. All that is left is implementation; then the strike will be officially called off by ASUU.
