FG and ASUU are currently meeting behind closed doors to end the strike.

Nigeria online news reports that the Ministry of Labor and Employment revealed this briefly before the meeting began in the minister’s conference room.

Parliament is expected to address several pending issues, including the union’s preferred contentious payment platform.

He recalled that ASUU had opposed the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System used to settle the wages of workers by the FG and, instead, developed the University Transparency and Responsibility Solution that is currently being tested by the National Development Agency of Information Technology.

The Nigerian Universities Senior Staff Association and the Non-Academic Staff Union had also proposed the University General and Peculiar Personnel and Payroll System instead of IPPIS

Their action followed complaints against IPPIS that allegedly caused wage delays and defrauded university workers.

Labor and Employment Ministry spokesman Charles Akpan revealed in a text message on Wednesday that the dialogue with ASUU leaders would take place in the minister’s conference room.

The government said it had agreed to pay N30 billion of Accrued Academic Allowance, N20b for the revitalization of the education sector and salary arrears to university professors, adding that the only outstanding issue was the disagreement over the payment platform.

But ASUU insisted that the government has not complied with its demands, noting that a resolution to the eight-month strike was not in sight.
