When examining the specifications, there’s more substance to the A54. The new model has just surpassed the 200g weight threshold, which is somewhat surprising given the slightly reduced screen size. The battery capacity remains the same.
The chipset has been upgraded to the Exynos 1380, and the “1380” indicates two additional powerful CPU cores and an extra GPU core compared to the previous 1280 model. This improvement in hardware is the most significant this year and may justify the slight increase in weight.
The depth sensor is no longer present, but the triple camera setup on the back now features a 50MP unit instead of the 64MP one found on the A53 5G. Despite the nominal decrease in resolution, this shouldn’t be seen as a downgrade. The ultrawide and macro cameras seem unchanged, as does the selfie camera.
However, not all changes are negative. For example, the IP67 rating for dust and water resistance is retained, which has been a feature in Galaxy A-series midrangers for several generations. The A54 also continues to offer stereo speakers and includes a microSD slot, which is a welcome feature for expandable storage.
